A photo from Alden Armstrong. Being that railfan/photographer he captured many moments in time along the old Jawbone branch that ran through Little Lake. In this photo he spoke of the impending demise that would eventually bring rail operations to an end but how at this moment the structures could almost speak to you about life in a small town with limited rail operations. I sure wish I could see a better shot of that old passenger car hidden behind that old box car workshop in the middle. Me personally, I could have spent all day here and never left till the sun went down just taking it all in.

Hi Ray,
Glad to find your site today. For quite a while I've been trying to find out the location for a Sullivan's gas station somewhere on US395, about a tank's worth of gas from Whittier. It's been a bit frustrating. Today I learned why.
As a 13 year-old on a first two-week camping trip with the YMCA, I was excited to take a photo--it was the first time they let us out of the truck since we'd left the Whittier Y much earlier that morning. The staff rode in the cab, we juniors rode in the back. With my new roll of film, I was looking anywhere to take a photo. I was pleasantly surprised today to see that the "CAFE" sign and accompanying building in the background matched up perfectly for Little Lake!
The photo was taken in July, 1960 with my Brownie Starlet camera. It was a great trip! Feel free to use the attached copy in any manner you wish.
Thanks and best wishes,
Bruce Jones |
